Welcome to our new blog! I'm so excited to share some of my thoughts with you! Today I want to talk a little about Stella Lane Boutique and how it came to be.
I have worked in retail for almost thirteen years. After working on a farm and living in a barn in my late teens and early twenties, I started working part time at a store that sold horse supplies and equipment. It was a nice change of pace and I enjoyed seeing new products. I began working on our store's website and eventually our Amazon and eBay storefronts. The online work was definitely one of the things I enjoyed most. I could create a product listing and see the results right in front of me which was something that I loved. Eventually, I started working at the store full time and traveling to horse shows where I worked on the mobile unit. As I started working full time, my responsibilities shifted a little. I eventually started doing some of the buying for the store, and that quickly became my favorite part of the job.
Over time, I started to lose some of my connections in the horse industry and my passions and interests changed. I met my husband, got married, and had kids and soon I realized that I wanted to work in an industry that was related to one of those things. I love weddings, so first I thought I wanted to open a wedding dress boutique. However, the COVID lockdowns hit and I started working from home, which completely changed my perspective on retail and business in general. I realized that I liked being home, especially after we started having kids, so I knew that an eCommerce store was what I preferred, and it was also more convenient for a lot of people.
The talk of me opening my own business was shelved for a while. We had two very young kids, each had steady jobs, and things were comfortable. Then, at the end of 2022, I started feeling like I needed to do something I was more passionate about. I love being a mom and I wanted to show that with my new business adventure, so Stella Lane Boutique was born.
When I was pregnant, I had a hard time finding maternity clothes that I though were flattering and affordable, so I knew that was something I wanted to focus on. I also wanted to provide essentials for pregnant and postpartum mothers to hopefully help them through an important, yet some times difficult, time in their lives. This is why we carry self care items- so that Mom is taken care of too!
While my original focus was moms, I wanted to make sure we had kids covered as well. For one thing, one of the thing in life that brings me the most joy is buying clothes for my kids (just ask my husband). I also wanted to make sure that we had all the bases covered for kids essentials such as bath products, teethers, and toys. By doing this, we could provide a one stop shop for moms, and they could experience it from the comfort of their own home.
